Boca Grande Fishing Charters Feb/Mar Fishing Report 2015

The Redfish are heating up on our Boca Grande Fishing Charters!

Weather patterns in February in March play a huge part in the success of your fishing adventures. As multiple cold fronts come through, the patterns of the fish can change on a daily basis. Cold north winds call for backwater fishing in the pot holes with a slow presentation on the bottom.  As the wind turns to the east, heading to near shore wrecks has been a great way to bend a rod during recent Boca Grande fishing charters.

Inshore

The snook bite is starting to slow down as the weather & water temperature continues to get colder.  There is still some white bait around and is a must to target the snook that are still accessible. Chumming is still the best way to get the snook chewing and we have had great success during mild weather days.

Redfish are starting to show up in some small schools on the flats, off the sand bars & in the troughs of deep water close to the grass. These fish have been good quality ranging from upper slot to 32+ inches. 15-20 redfish days are common when you find a good school.  The rat reds have also showed up in good numbers.  On a recent Boca Grande fishing charter we caught 30+ rat reds out of one hole! Shrimp & pinfish are the bait of choice for the redfish on a jig head or circle hook.

We are catching trout in great numbers on all of our recent charters. 50-60 trout days are common, and getting your limit has been a common occurrence with fish up to 22 inches. The trout provide non-stop rod bending action that fisherman of any skill level will enjoy. Please be sure to handle the larger trout with care as they are spawning this time of year and the big females are carrying thousands of eggs.  Catch & release on these larger female trout is a must to help preserve the fishery.

Nearshore

Near shore fishing, when the weather cooperates, has been great. Grouper, tripletail, snapper, cobia, grunts & flounder have been holding on the nearshore wrecks and are feeding well. Shrimp & pinfish on a 1/2oz jig head seem to work the best. A fish on every drop has been common and provide fun for all skill levels & fisherman of all ages.

Many other species are also being caught on our Boca Grande fishing charters including pompano, ladyfish, jack crevalle, snapper, bluefish & the occasional shark. All of these species provide lots of fun and can be caught in great numbers.

Please remember to be courteous & respectful on the water so that everyone can enjoy our amazing fishery. Also remember that tarpon season is right around the corner. Book your Boca Grande tarpon charter today to be sure you get the date you want as the calendar is filling up fast!

Fishing overall has been great & will continue to be good as long as the weather cooperates! I still have some February & March dates available, so call today to get out on the water while everyone up north is fighting the snow!

Providing the fishing adventure of a lifetime!
